In response to the recent announcement by the Department of Health to create 'Academic Health Science Networks (AHSNs)', the North East and North Cumbria have submitted an application to become an AHSN.
HIEC NE aims to align itself with the vision of formal partnerships between NHS organisations, academia and industry allowing the opportunity for education, service and innovation to come together to ensure effective and timely implementation of new developments in healthcare. HIEC NE functions as an independent portal and source of support maintaining links between organisations that promote and benefit from, innovation.

Supporting projects across three themes that promote innovative education and training; innovative technologies; and innovative ways of delivering services
Directing project outcomes to specific partner organisations and networks so that adoption and best practice can be spread across the region
