A joint bid between HIEC NE and NHS Innovations North has recently been successful in attracting funding of £1.2 million from the European Regional Development Fund.

Inter-Professional Learning (IPL) in the Practice Setting: Developing Skills for IPL Facilitation

This half day workshop is free of charge and is intended for clinical teachers/ mentors/ educators who support the clinical practice-based learning of students in health, social care and education settings and who have an interest in developing their own confidence and skills to facilitate interprofessional learning with students.
The Workshop will be interactive and interprofessional, offering participants an opportunity to learn with, from and about each other as educators and to reflect on their own role in facilitating clinical practice-based IPL.
The workshop is designed for those who have some experience and understanding of interprofessional learning and who wish to build on their existing knowledge and skills.

Using and Creating Sustainable Learning and Teaching Resources
Wednesday 7th March 2012, 12:30pm - 4:00pm

This workshop will explore using open educational resources for learning and teaching as well as giving you the opportunity to discover how to safely share and protect your own resources under appropriate licences. The session is designed to appeal to those in both academic and practice settings and is being facilitated by the HEA Subject Centre for Medicine, Dentistry and Veterinary Sciences.
Learning Outcomes
At the end of the workshop participants will:
• Be able to confidently use resources such as images and resources from the internet and elsewhere, attributing content creators (copyright owners), when creating teaching and learning resources.
• Understand the difference between copyright ownership and licencing and how to use resources shared under licence.
• Be able to clearly indicate the copyright status of any works you have created using an appropriate Creative Commons licence.
• Be aware of how to deal with consent issues in using patient data in learning and teaching resources. Exemplify best practice in 'digital professionalism' and manage risks when creating sustainable teaching resources.

North East Leadership Academy (NELA) Summit: Leading Innovation in Today’s NHS

‘Using Simulation to Enhance and Improve Education’
Friday 27th and Saturday 28th April 2012

ASPiH and Laerdal have announced a joint regional simulation meeting to be held in Scotland which will highlight how simulation has been developed, integrated and evaluated in current undergraduate/pre-registration/emergency service education. The event will bring together colleagues from diverse healthcare and educational backgrounds to share their experiences. A wide range of workshops are planned to encourage the development of working partnerships, research collaboration and the sharing of expertise between professionals. The following keynote speakers ahve been announced:
• Dr Anne Lippert, Deputy Director Danish Institute for Medical Simulation (DIMS)
• Mr Tim Draycott, Consultant Obstetrician & Gynaecologist and Senior Lecturer in Obstetrics & Gynaecologist, University of Bristol
As this meeting is in Scotland there will be a Conference Dinner and Ceilidh at the Apex Hotel, City Quay, Dundee on Friday 27th April starting at 7.30pm. All delegates are invited to attend the dinner. Additional cost applies.
