The government has announced £4 million of funding for businesses to develop cutting-edge ideas to address some of the biggest health problems of our time.
Ageing and Later Life
AdvantageNewcastle is an economic step change program for Newcastle and the North East focusing on the ageing demographic. This program was initiated by Newcastle City Council and is being project managed by Newcastle Science City. It includes stakeholders from the public, private and third sectors who are working together to identify visionary step-change projects for the region that focus on ageing. They aim to create a new generation of opportunities for local businesses and to attract a new wave of international investment.
During the week commencing 10th October 2011 seven workshops were run to seek input from local business leaders. These were based on the program’s four themes:
- SmartAge Business
- Independent Living
- Personal Strategies
- All Age City
The workshops stimulated lively debate and some really innovative thinking.

The next stage is for the stakeholder group to identify two or three key projects from the workshop outputs as well as the lead organisations to take these forward. This process has commenced and regular updates will be available on the AdvantageNewcastle website.
